(Publishing currently on hold)
[Update – October 25: Looks like things are moving at last with the immigration system, so hopefully I’ll be able to resume publishing from the end of November or December 2022.]
It’s been a while since I’ve put out anything new, and unfortunately it looks like my current publishing hiatus could continue for a while yet. It’s very frustrating, but there’s nothing that can be done for the moment, it seems.
The issue is that Familia Sebastian has moved lock, stock and barrel across the ocean to resettle in the United States.
It seems like a crazy time to emigrate, with all this inflation knocking around and so on, but, what can you do? The wife was homesick after a difficult pandemic, and wants to raise our children in her home country.
The trouble with this plan is that the immigration system here is in a complete mess. We’ve been waiting a year and a half for my residency to be approved so far, despite the fact that I’m married to an American and have two kids who are citizens.
This summer, we decided to sell our home in London and get a place in the States so that we could get the kids into a new school in time for the start of the academic year. We figured the longer we waited, the more difficult it would be for our kids to cope with the upheaval.
The downside is that for me to be in the United States with my family, I am not allowed to work. It’s apparently to do with the risk of foreigners stealing American jobs, but for now it means no new stories until the green card comes through.
It could be weeks, it could be months until this situation is resolved. Hopefully not years.
In the meantime, the lawyer says my old stuff can continue to be out there on sale, because the earning technically takes place in the UK (which is where the money goes). But, no new stuff for now.
I do hope you all understand. Service will resume as soon as possible.
Until then, I’ll have to say à bientôt.
