It’s a short novel, and much lighter in tone that my recent wife-watching epic, the Madeleine Trilogy, and with its smaller scope does not offer quite so many twists and turns.
But as with that longer work, this one also follows a married couple exploring the fantasy of the wife being allowed to sleep with another man, which proves a powerful sexual experience for all involved.
I think if you enjoyed the Madeleine books, and my recent short story “Playback”, you should enjoy this one. I think the purpose for this one, as I was writing it, was exploring the dynamic of the wife going for a younger man. I guess you’d almost call her a cougar, although I think the wife in question, Tessa Shaw, might be considered too young for that particular label.
Since the object of her newfound lust in this story is fairly inexperienced, it’s quite a different dynamic to Madeleine’s fulfillment. But, you still have the husband going through the strange conflicted feelings of jealousy and excitement at this curious fantasy, of sharing his wife.
